Ah. Modern dating.

It goes something like this: talking, flirting, Netflix and chilling, ghosting, and we’re back to square one.

Especially for college kids and twenty-somethings, the world of modern dating is nothing less than a shit-show.

Nobody seems to understand commitment. Nobody wants to wait for the “right person” before giving away the goods. Nobody cares enough to get to know someone through some good ol’ fashioned conversation.

And everybody is frustrated.

So why is modern dating such a nightmare?

Ambiguity

“What are we?”

The question every woman dare not ask unless she wants to send the guy running for the hills.

Kind-of-sort-of relationships are the norm. You’re “a thing.” Or you’re “talking.” Or you’re “seeing where it goes.”

People are so far deep into this world of ambiguity and confusion that we’re afraid to even suggest that we’re looking for something more meaningful than a quasi-relationship.

The concept of dating as an easygoing and undefined process could work if it was that way in every aspect. But as we know, even pseudo-relationships turn physically and emotionally intense.

This brings us to point number two.

Promiscuity

These days, sex is a commodity that comes free, easy, and with no strings attached.

Except, of course, when there are strings attached.

(Which is most of the time.)

To assert that physical intimacy comes without any consequences is a lie. It’s a lie that harms women and men who remain ignorant of its impact. Modern society will tell you that sex, love, and commitment are entirely separate things when really they are all interconnected.

Women are left feeling used, violated, shameful, disappointed, and hurt by the false promises that “hookup culture” would be fun and liberating. Men are left feeling confused, guilt-ridden…
