You Don’t Get A Trophy For Not Being A Rapist
“I would never force you to do anything you weren’t comfortable with.”
In a world where sexual assault is more common than it should be, men who claim, “I would never force you to do anything…” are hailed as the cream of the crop.
These are the ‘good guys’ — the ones women should trust. And many such men think they are on some moral high ground.
“I would never make you do something that makes you uncomfortable.”
“I would never force myself on you against your will.”
“We’ll only go as far as you’d like.”
I’ve heard women talk about how “sweet” and “understanding” guys like these are.
I remain woefully unimpressed.
(Especially in the early stages of dating.)
Like, okay…are you really “sweet” just because you’re not a rapist?
Are you really “so understanding” because you aren’t ramming your body parts into another person against their will?
I’m not impressed by a man who doesn’t rape any more than I would be impressed by a man who doesn’t steal or murder.
