You bring up a good point in terms of people protecting themselves against accusations of assault. Even if consent is explicitly given, what's to stop someone from claiming that it was not? Or claiming that they changed their minds? Or regretting an act, and going on to say that it was assault? Plenty of people give verbal consent, but still feel used or violated afterwards.
Consent doesn't solve the root problem in our culture of promiscuity. As a society, we should be encouraging our children to have respect for their bodies and the bodies of others. That will go further than "have as much sex as you want with whomever you want as long as they give consent!"
