Wives, Submit to Your Husbands — But Husbands Aren’t Off the Hook
“Wives, submit to your husbands.”
Whether you practice Christianity or not, this statement gets people’s blood boiling.
It sounds a lot like: “Women, submit to men.”
As a woman, I would take issue with this myself.
But is that what this verse is really saying?
Let’s give it some context. The verse goes,
“Wives, submit to your own husbands, as to the Lord. For the husband is the head of the wife even as Christ is the head of the church, his body, and is himself its Savior.”
This is a hard pill to swallow, even for a God-fearing woman.
Nobody likes being told that they should set aside their will and prioritize the will of another person. It doesn’t matter what the context.
Mind you — men aren’t bastions of virtue just because they’re men.
Men don’t have all the answers, one hundred percent of the time.
