The “Ultimate Act Of Love” Isn’t What You Think

Here’s one way to tell if someone truly loves you.

I once heard someone refer to sex as the “ultimate act of love.” I can appreciate this concept — that making love with your body is the deepest and most intimate form of human connection, physically.

But, we also know that sex, in and of itself, is not always an indicator of love. In modern society, it isn’t even usually an indicator that love is present.

So if sex isn’t the ultimate act of love, what is?

Is marriage the deepest expression of love and commitment made in our modern society?

Commitment, perhaps.

Love, not necessarily.

While marriage is supposed to be a lifelong commitment to one partner, the reality is that half of all marriages today end in divorce. Many people experience several trips down the aisle.

Can a marriage really be an indicator of true love if it's a coin toss as to whether or not it will result in an ugly divorce?

I think not.

The truest form of love is self-sacrifice.
