Sex Is Fun, So Why Would Anyone Wait Until Marriage?

It’s the 21st century.

So why on earth would anyone choose to wait until marriage before having sex with their partner?

Indoctrination? Religious guilt? Internalized misogyny that denies women the right to explore their sexuality?

Maybe.

But also…maybe not.

We tend to assume that the only reason a person might choose to wait is due to a lack of personal freedom or some form of immaturity.

But what if that wasn’t the case?

In a society where the expectation is sex after the third date (and sometimes even before then), here are ten non-religious reasons why some people choose to abstain from sex while in dating relationships.

You never have to worry about an unplanned pregnancy.

Let’s start with the obvious: sexual intercourse leads to babies.

Some people act surprised when they hear this. “We don’t know what happened!” or “it was an accident!” are some of the most common sentiments I’ve heard around unplanned pregnancies.
