The hit Netflix series gets love all wrong.

We love to hate-watch Love is Blind. It’s good reality TV, full of drama, and centered around society’s favorite topic: love.

The premise of the show is that it’s possible to fall in love with someone without ever seeing them face to face.

Hence the tagline, “love is blind.”

In the context of the show, we take this phrase to mean that we love someone regardless of (or despite) their physical appearance. It doesn’t matter if you’re not physically attracted to him or her — if you have a deep emotional connection, you can still fall in love.

Right?

I call BS.

There are a great many things wrong with this show, but let me start at the beginning.

“Love is blind” doesn’t actually mean you can or should fall in love without even seeing a person.

Love is blind was originally an idiom meaning that when are madly in love with someone, we are blind to their faults and imperfections.
