Sex is inherently sexist.

This is not meant to be a controversial statement, but a statement of fact.

Women have always had more to lose.

We are more sexually vulnerable than men. We can get pregnant. We are more prone to a variety of illnesses. We are more likely to be emotionally scarred by broken sexual relationships.

We’re not on an equal playing field.

So the question remains — how can we, as a society, level it?

Historically, society demanded that men practice sexual restraint.

Throughout most of history, if you wanted to have regular sex as a man, you needed to commit to a woman — generally, in the form of marriage.

(This is not to say that the sole purpose of marriage for a man was to have access to sex, but it certainly was a motivator.)

The social narrative today is that marriage is a way to keep women trapped.
