Is Marriage Even Worth It?

Is marriage in modern society the fairytale we hoped for?

In the United States, half of all marriages end in divorce.

And many marriages that “last” are also unhappy, toxic, or hanging on by a thread.

So why are people still getting married in the first place?

The biggest appeal of marriage for many is its permanence.

It’s the concept that — no matter what — the person you are with will stay by your side “through sickness and in health, for richer or poorer, till death do you part.”

Marriage is meant to be a permanent relationship of love and commitment.

That’s what sets it apart from all other forms of coupling or cohabitating.

The sad reality is that most people don’t know what it takes to maintain a relationship for life.

Hollywood has sold us a dangerous lie.

Physical beauty, sex, and passionate emotions alone cannot sustain a relationship.

And yet, we tend to choose our marriage partners based on these things.
