I Wrote The Most Offensive Article On Medium

How to deal with negative comments as a new writer.

When I joined Medium in May of 2021 (about four months ago, at the time I am writing this), I assumed that nobody was actually going to read anything that I wrote.

I didn’t advertise it, I rarely told friends or family about it, and I certainly did not expect real people would actually take time out of their day to read what I had to say.

Now, four months in, I’ve had a piece (“Exclusive Not Dating” Is Everything Wrong With Modern Relationships) reach over 1,000 reads for the first time. I know 1,000 reads may not seem like much in the grand scheme of things, but for someone who was used to seeing less than 10 reads per article on average, it was huge.

Over the course of the last week week, I have watched my following double. And with a greater following and more reads, some of my previous work started gaining more attention, too.

Two months ago, I also published a piece titled “In Long-Term Dating, Ladies Lose.” (Again, a piece I thought virtually nobody would ever read.) I admit, it was a little harsh in subject matter and in delivery, so I can see why it ruffled some feathers.
