I think another element to this is the emphasis people place on their careers as their ultimate satisfaction or purpose in life. It’s the “work to live” vs. “live to work” mentality. I’m definitely work to live. One of my passions is writing (hence joining medium - woohoo!) but my day job is in marketing. I don’t hate it, but I definitely don’t feel that my job is ultimately what makes me happy in life.

I think another problem is that young people feel entitled to happiness while being completely misguided as to where true happiness comes from. The world today will emphasize tangible goods, fame, physical beauty, romance etc. when there are deeper joys to be found in this life.

Interesting perspective! I enjoyed this.
