I Stopped Wearing Makeup and Feel More Beautiful Than Ever

Today, I put on eyeliner and I absolutely hated it.

I almost washed it off before I left, but I felt bad because I had spent nearly 15 minutes trying to get my wings to look even.

I’m honestly not sure why my preference for makeup has changed so much throughout my teenage and young adult years.

In high school, I started wearing makeup as a way to distract from my bad skin. I’ve struggled with acne almost my entire life (age 12 and beyond), and somehow I thought wearing makeup would help.

At first, it was pencil liner on the waterline, a trend that I had picked up on from my older cousin. It looked absolutely awful. (No, really. I can’t believe my mother let me leave the house wearing it.)

Then, I went to CVS and picked up a random foundation from a random brand and thought “hmm, I guess this will do.” That phase didn’t last long, because kids at school pointed it out. So I switched to a less-noticeable BB cream instead.

Next, it was mascara. Chunky, gross mascara, because I knew nothing of combing my eyelashes out or about products expiring. Also, I was a broke teenager so the only mascara I could afford was that $6.00 Covergirl lash blast, or whatever it was called.
