At dinner the other night, my friend confessed that she was looking to stop talking to this guy she matched with online.

She wanted to ghost him…but felt like it was a dick move.

Ah, ghosting.

I’ve only been ghosted twice in my life — once by a guy who I had basically friend-zoned anyway, and once by a toxic ex who I equally stopped reaching out to.

A mutual ghost scenario. (Does that count?)

I don’t know.

I’m probably not one to talk.

Anyway, ghosting is the act of suddenly ignoring someone and never talking to them again without explanation.

It sounds awful (and it might be), but it’s pretty common during the early stages of “talking” relationships these days.

Why do we ghost?

We ghost because we don’t want to hurt people’s feelings, but we also don’t want to continue talking to them.

We ghost because we don’t want to feel like the asshole.

I don’t love ghosting, but I don’t completely hate it, either.
